Digital Photography 200

Digital Photography 200 is for novice and intermediate photographers equipped with DSLR cameras or other camera formats suitable for advanced photography techniques.  This 6-week course is held on consecutive Wednesday evenings (6:30 – 8:00) beginning Jan 18 and finishing Feb 22.  Also included are 2 two-hour personalized instruction sessions (giving you opportunities to work on your own specific needs one-to-one with the insturctor).

This course provides students plenty of time to practice what they learn and thoroughly understand one concept before moving on to new work.  Each week’s class concludes with an assignment designed to reinforce the week’s learning objective and there will be one-on-one time to review the assignment and compare results the following week.

Our curriculum is as follows:

Week 1:

* Glossary of photographic terms

* Review of camera settings for picture quality, white balance and more.

* Review of camera settings for correct exposure: aperture, shutter speed and ISO

Week 2:

* Review of Week 1 assignment, questions and answers

* Metering modes and manual metering

* Hands-on work and evaluation of different metering strategies

Week 3:

* Auto Focus, AF Points, Manual focus

* Correcting focus problems

* Strategies for photographing birds in flight

Week 4:

* Review of Week 3 assignment, questions and answers

* Shooting in low light, light painting, high dynamic range images

* Hands-on experimentation with light painting

Week 5:

* Review of Week 4 assignment, questions and answers

* Portraiture and flash photography

* Hands-on portraiture work with natural light, flashes and studio lights

Week 6:

* Review of Week 5 assignment, questions and answers

* Class’s choice of subject (macro, Lightroom, Photoshop, others)

* Awards for great assignment photographs

* Final assignment (to be completed in class time)

 

This class is currently scheduled for Wednesday evenings, additional sessions may be added, based on demand.
