Movie-Making for Beginners: Edit your first film

Join filmmaker and photographer Mike Byrne for a fabulous movie-making experience.  This workshop is aimed at photographers using DSLR cameras but is equally useful for people with camcorders or for those using point-and-shoot cameras with video capabilities.  Each participant will learn all the steps necessary to edit polished and entertaining videos.

Key elements of the workshop:

* Understanding video formats and resolutions
* Capturing and logging footage
* Adding audio and music
* Adding transitions and titles
* Special effects
* Outputting video for mobile devices, YouTube and HD

The workshop begins with an overview of different types of video formats and resolutions, with a special focus on the footage produced by DSLR cameras. We will then look at methods for converting the footage into more editable formats. The footage will be imported into a video editing program and logged. Each participant will then create their own movie by arranging their footage and audio tracks onto a timeline. They will use slip, roll and ripple edits to tweak the clips, then add transitions, special effects and titles. Finally, each video will be output for display on YouTube.

Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 6 participants so everyone will receive substantial personal attention.

Weekend workshops commence at 9:00 am and conclude at approximately 5:00 pm. Please bring your own beverages and a packed lunch. Weekday workshops normally commence at 9:00 am but can be flexed to suit the group’s timetable.

Fall 2011 dates will be added by July 29.
