Digital Photography for beginners

workshop

Students on beginners digital photograpy workshop

This workshop is aimed at beginners to the world of digital photography and is suitable for those with both point-and-shoot and SLR-type digital cameras.

The day will begin with a brief “introduction” in the classroom, teaching basic camera menu settings to optimize your camera’s file capabilities. Please be sure to bring your instruction book as there is a plethora of digital cameras and I obviously do not know my way around all their menus. I will also explain some of the more common photographic terminology, translating it into comprehensible English! We will learn a little necessary photographic theory before going out to put into practice the techniques learned in the classroom.

The majority of the day will be spent in the field learning basic photography technique, including:

  • Holding the camera correctly and use of support aids (tripod, monopod, etc.)
  • Obtaining correct exposure and understanding a histogram
  • Choosing the correct aperture and shutter speed
  • Composition
  • Choosing the correct focal length of lens (or zoom settings)
  • Use of flash … and much more

I will answer individual questions and provide assistance to those who are experiencing specific problems with their photography throughout the day.

At the end of the photography session we will return to the classroom and download each student’s images to critique. This is likely the most important part of the day as you can learn much from looking at your own images, and the work of others.

Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 6 participants so everyone will receive substantial personal attention.

“Hi Peter:
I really enjoyed your workshop yesterday!
Thanks for being so patient with all my questions. Tasha and I will be riding this afternoon from her place in Qualicum Beach down to the ocean and I hope she brings her fancy camera for lots of photos so we can share with the other trail riders our new found knowledge. I would like to take your 3 person workshop on using the computer and photos – please give me more details. Good to see another Macintosh user – I run my law office with them!” – Barbara Smith – Coombs

“Thank you for a most informative and fun workshop. I’m really keen now, to go out and buy myself a new camera and all of the computer software necessary to make my photo projects come alive. The folder full of reference material was also invaluable” Carmen Welton

“Thank you so very much for your time on Feb 10th. You did what so many manuals and books failed to do. I hope to be on one of your exotic tours one day. Cheers” – Kim Greig
